What is sunless tanning?
Sunless tanning is a safe way for an individual to receive a beautiful tan that will last 5-10 days without being subjected to harmful UV rays. It is applied by a certified technician. The tanning products contain Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a sugarcane derivative that interacts with the amino acids in dead skin cells to produce a golden brown tan. As the skin cells are constantly being shed, your spray tan will look natural and fade naturally as if it came directly from the sun. DHA has been FDA approved for over 30 years and is considered safe.
Why Should I sunless Tan?
According to the
Skin Cancer Foundation 69,000 people will be diagnosed with skin cancer this year. YOU don't have to be a statistic. If you’re new to the world of sunless tanning, you may think it’s just another cancer inducing process to darken the tone of your skin.
But the truth of the matter is that spray tans and other sunless tanning products are a safe and viable alternative to traditional tanning and tanning beds. This may seem too good to be true, but the evidence is overwhelming, and a recent article from the
Mayo Clinic reinforces what sunless tanning advocates have been preaching for years. Spray tans are the ONLY safe tans you can get. Period!
How Do I Prepare for my Sunless Tan?
Before tanning one needs to shave or wax in order to reduce irritation. Also, to help the tan last longer one needs to exfoliate their body. This helps the skin absorb the tan better. We recommend that this is done the night prior to the tan. Remove all lotion, makeup and deodorant before tanning.
During the sunless tan you should wear dark-colored undergarments, a bikini, or disposable bra and panties. Women can wear as much or little as they would like. Men are required to wear a swimsuit, shorts or briefs. The tanning solution will wash out of fabric, so if you decide to wear your clothing, it will not stain.
After the tan it is very important to avoid showers (or coming in contact with water), or excessive sweating during the first 8 hours after the sunless tan. This will allow your skin to fully absorb the DHA and therefore develop ideal color results. We recommend that the clients wear dark loose fitting clothing after their tan to minimize color guard rub-off onto lighter clothing.
When you take your first shower only run warm water over your body. You will see some of the tanning solution in the water. This is perfectly normal, the DHA has soaked in and will leave you with a beautiful, bronze and even tan.
How Should I Maintain my Tan?
The tan should last 5-10 days depending on each individuals skin. Moisturize every day with a hydrating lotion this will keep your skin in good condition. Do not exfoliate your skin for at least 2-3 days after the application. If the tan becomes faded or uneven you can apply some self tanner to give it a quick fix. Please talk to one of our technicians we will be happy to tell you about our different products to help extend your tan.
